All it takes to banish darkness is a small ray of light.
Meet Anila Ali, Farhana Khorshed, Soraya M. Deen, and Zebunnesa Zeba Zubair, four Muslim women who have chosen to stand against extremism and violence. These brave changemakers came to America in search of a more inclusive and open society where basic human rights and freedoms are cherished and defended. Their personal journeys reflect their commitment to these ideals and their determination to counter the rise of bigotry and hatred the world is experiencing today.
Why speak up now?
After the barbaric October 7th attack by Hamas on Israel, there was an initial outpouring of sympathy across the globe for the Israeli people. However, the tenor soon changed into hostility, with a proliferation of anti-Israel demonstrations featuring violent behavior and dangerous antisemitic rhetoric, and Jewish communities are now facing threat levels unprecedented in the post-World War II era.
The worldwide movement promoting the regressive values of the autocratic Iranian regime and its terror proxies, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, is undermining the fabric of democratic societies everywhere and fomenting inter-communal strife, particularly between Muslims and Jews.
But there are other voices – voices rejecting this harmful discourse and advocating for solidarity and allyship between peoples of all faiths and backgrounds. These are the voices we must support as part of a collective effort to uphold and safeguard the core human principles of unity, mutual respect, and friendship.
How can we make these voices heard?
We must shine a spotlight on the inspiring stories of courageous activists like Anila, Ferhana, Soraya, and Zebunnesa, and so many others. Through a series of personal heartfelt videos, these women are sharing their life experiences, underscoring the values they hold dear and offering hope for a better and more inclusive global future.
What do we stand for?
Showcasing Pro-Western Values: Fundamental rights and liberties are key to human prosperity and progress.
Countering Anti-American Ideas: The United States remains a guardian of freedom and a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples around the world.
Promoting Tolerance and Unity: We must focus on what unites, rather than divides, us, to live in productive and thriving societies.
Inspiring Advocacy Against Extremism: Purveyors of extremist ideologies have to be identified, condemned, and shunned by all good people of conscience.
What can you do?
We invite you to amplify the stories of Anila, Farhana, Soraya, and Zebunnesa, and contribute your own. By doing so, you will help spread the message that there is no place for hatred and extremism in today’s world. Standing together as one, we can forge societies where everyone lives freely without fear of discrimination and persecution.
